ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born on July 2, 1989 , to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. Morgan and her siblings Jeni and Jeri were raised in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan was multisport throughout her childhood, however she began playing soccer at 14. Morgan was a member of the Cypress Elite club team and took home the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship. In addition, she placed third in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to refine her soccer skills in Diamond Bar High School. National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) chose her as an All-American Athlete. She also participated in the Olympic Development Division's regional and state divisions. Morgan continued her career in soccer at UC Berkeley. She led the California Golden Bears team's scoring in her first season. She was instrumental in getting the team to the NCAA Tournament all four years and into second rounds twice. Morgan was among four finalists for the Honda Sports Award. This was the first time she was one of the Hermann Trophy finalists to be placed in the top spot on the list. When she graduated early in 2010, Morgan was ranked third in all-time points and goals for Berkeley. Morgan played soccer at both the collegiate and national levels throughout her studies. When she first joined the Berkeley team, Morgan experienced an ACL injury that stopped her from participating in the U.S. under-20 women's soccer team until April 2008. In Mexico Morgan scored her first international soccer goal at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan also participated in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup which she scored four goals while winning her team an Olympic gold medal, along with other accolades.Morgan was then absorbed by the senior national team, who she replaced and scored several important goals. One of them was a victory over Italy that secured the U.S. team the final place in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player in the team and was the one to lead the team to victory over France. While the U.S. ultimately lost to Japan, Morgan became the first ever player to score goals and assists in the final World Cup game.
